On 1 February a guest from Palermo checks into room 1 of Pensione Aurora. Rosalia Caruso is a police inspector who retired five weeks ago, and she carries one photo: a boy of seventeen on a blue Vespa, Palermo, July 1994, the only witness she ever lost. On her first night a note slides under her door: 'Torni a Palermo, ispettrice.' Nobody at the pensione knew she was police. A short crime novel for intermediate learners of Italian (B1).

— Mia nonna, Aurora. Ha aperto la pensione molti anni fa.

— Lei ha i suoi occhi.
